A portrayal of Archangel Gabriel announcing to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Christ, the Son of God. Picard was born in Paris and began traveling abroad at a young age. In 1710, he settled in Amsterdam, where he founded a school of engraving. Although he was a gifted draftsman and engraver he rarely produced designs by himself.
