A painting of a chapel close to a small harbor. Papanikolaou was born at the monastery of Trifillias and studied at the School of Fine Arts in Athens and served as assistant at the studio of T. Thomopoulou. In 1937, he began focusing on his art and worked with Fotis Kontoglou for five years. He died in Athens in 1986.

« Εξωκκλήσι », κοντά σε μικρό λιμάνι. Ο Σπύρος Παπανικολάου γεννήθηκε στο Μοναστήρι Τριφυλλίας. Σπούδασε γλυπτική στην Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών στην Αθήνας ( 1927 - 32 ) και διετέλεσε βοηθός στο Εργαστήρι του Θ. Θωμόπουλου μέχρι το 1937. Από το 1937 στράφηκε προς τη ζωγραφική. Εργάστηκε κοντά στον Φ. Κόντογλου για μια πενταετία ( 1960 - 65 ). Πέθανε στην Αθήνα το 1986.
