A multi narrative illustrating the catastrophic impact of the military invasion on the island of Cyprus by Turkey in 1974. The narrative portrays the death of innocents and the young children who fought to defend their home, the mourning mothers and widows who became refugees in their own land, as well as various reminisces of Cypriot culture such as ancient artefacts, all centred around the Saint Hilarion Castle that sits on the Kyrenia mountain range in the northern occupied part of the island. Eugene (Evgenios in Greek) was very fond of Cyprus and had visited the island on numerous occasions. The painter described the drama of Cyprus from visiting the island after the Turkish invasion, as he saw the catastrophe and the refugees.

Ο « Άγιος Ιλαρίων ». Πρόκειται για το γνωστό κάστρο πάνω στον Πενταδάκτυλο. Είναι έργο του Ρώσου ζωγράφου Ευγένιου ο οποίος επανειλημμένα επισκέφθηκε την Κύπρο και γνώρισε « από πρώτο χέρι » τα αποτελέσματα της τουρκικής εισβολής στο νησί με τις χιλιάδες των προσφύγων και συλημένη τη μακραίωνη πολτιστική κληρορονομιά. Τα στοιχεία αυτά αποτύπωσε σ’ αυτόν τον πίνακα. Σε πρώτο πλάνο η ηλιοκαμένη « γυναίκα της Κύπρου » και αρχαιολογικά ευρήματα της Ελληνιστικής περιόδου. Πάνω δεξιά ολόγυμνη μια γυναίκα, η οποία, αφού πρώτα βιάστηκε, στη συνέχεια της αφαιρέθηκε και η ζωή.
