Title

Miss Universe Contest 2000 Issue, Republic of Cyprus.

Description

The Miss Universe contest took place in Cyprus and here the designer presents it within the context of present and past traditions. The stamp on the left illustrates the present with a globe and a woman looking full of joy within a rose-mauve background dazzling in mysticism. The stamp on the left presents the past with Aphrodite, Goddess of beauty who was born in Cyprus, and an apple within the yellowish orange color that reminds one of the orange, the sun, the Cyprus flag and the golden apple. The apple is known in legend since Adam and Eve and the Trojan War where it all started when Hera, Athena and Aphrodite asked Paris to give the golden apple to the most beautiful Goddess, and Paris gave it to Aphrodite who had promised him the most beautiful woman in the world who was no other than Helen of Troy, if he were to give her the golden apple.
