Dublin Core

Title

Pleurotus eryngii var. ferulae, Mushrooms of Cyprus Thematic Issue, Republic of Cyprus

Description

Mushrooms belong to the fungal kingdom and can be found all over the world. Many species are still to be identified especially in the tropical rain forests. Mushrooms have different lifestyles and find different ways to continue growing and multiplying. Some require living partners such as a tree. The tree supplies sugar to the fungus and the latter provides water and nutrients to the tree. They have the ability to break down dead matter and they play a significant role in the ecological balance of the environment. They produce spores to colonize an area and one fruitbody can produce billions of them.
