The European Postal and Telecommunication Organization specified "Musicians and Composers" as the theme for the Europa issue of 1985. The main traditional musical instruments in Cyprus were and still are the violin, the lute and the flute, which appear on the 15 cents stamp. The violin and the flute were and are the basic instruments played at holiday times, festivals and weddings in the rural areas and even more so at village fairs.
