Description

The illustration on this stamp is that of a limestone gravestone following Greek models. It has an inscription in the Cypriot syllabic script naming the deceased "Aristila". Excavated at Marion it is dated c.420 B.C. from the Classical Period. A number of important buildings and palaces of the Classical Period are known and "Vouni" is one such palace overlooking Morphou Bay and the city of Soloi. (Sir David Hunt, Footprints in Cyprus)
