The Royal Couple, Silver Wedding of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, Republic of Cyprus

Dublin Core

Title

The Royal Couple, Silver Wedding of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, Republic of Cyprus

Description

Elizabeth, Queen consort to King George VI, was born Elizabeth-Bowes-Lyon and was the first commoner to marry into the House of Windsor. During the Second World War she became such a morale booster that Adolf Hitler called her the most dangerous woman in Europe. For the King's and Queen's silver wedding anniversary sixty four colonies and protectorates issued 168 identical stamps. The complete collection commands a market value of between £900 and £1,000 sterling. The Cyprus stamps were the first to be printed by the photogravure process.
