Subject
Description
The stamp depicts the Queen's window from the Royal Lusignan apartments of St. Hilarion castle, which stands some 700m. above sea level. The view from the window towards the sea and Kyrenia’s coastline is breathtaking. The castle was at first a fortress but was later embellished to become a Royal summer resort for the King and his court. During Venetian rule it was abandoned and in the ensuing centuries fell into it present ruinous.
