Edward VII (1841-1910), King of Great Britain and Ireland (1901-1910), eldest son of Queen Victoria was born in London. He was educated privately and at Edinburgh, Oxford and Cambridge. In 1863 he married Princess Alexandra, daughter of King Christian IX of Denmark, and they had three sons and three daughters. He was Prince of Wales from the age of one month to 60 years when he ascended the throne in 1901.
