In 1840 Queen Victoria married her first cousin Prince Alber t of Saxe – Coburg -Gotha.
They had nine children, four sons and five daughters and her descendants were to succeed to the thrones of Germany, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Greece, Romania, and Yugoslavia. The marriages of her children had important diplomatic as well as dynastic implications in Europe. It was in the same year that Sir Rowland Hill invented the first postage stamp k nown as the ""Penny Black"".Date of withdrawal 22nd May 1882.
