Description

Prince Albert died in December 1861 and Queen Victoria was so over whelmed by grief that she withdrew from public life for almost a decade confining her duties to advising her ministers mainly by post, and unveiling memorials to her husband. The Queen refused to open Parliament personally on more than seven occasions since the death of Prince Albert.Date of withdrawal 7th June 1882.
