Green Monday people in Agios Athanasios used to go out in the fields in big groups and have fun till late in the afternoon. They put the tablecloth on the ground and enjoyed the traditional food of the day, eating and singing all day long.
“Resi” was prepared in large quantities so as to be offered to all guests present in the feast that followed the wedding ceremony which lasted for three whole days in the mid 60’s.
Resi is the traditional Cypriot dish of wheat cooked in lamb broth as rice. This was offered to the guest together with other traditional dishes during the feast that followed the wedding ceremony.
Traditional custom where donkeys participated in a race with their riders on each one claiming the top spot. Today the event’ s organized within the frame of Easter festivities.
