The photograph shows the north-eastern section of the rock-cut ceiling and upper walls of the sanctuary of the Enkleistra of Saint Neophytos, above the altar.
The rock-cut surface of the ceiling is articulated through painted architectural divisions that create the illusion of a structured architectural framework. The represented scenes include the Ascension of Christ on the uppermost part of the ceiling and the Annunciation on the northern section above the doorway, where the Mother of God and the Archangel Gabriel flank the figure of Christ Emmanuel. Also depicted is the Mother of God Orans, surrounded by Church Fathers.
This specific north-eastern section forms part of the remarkable decorative ensemble associated with the 1183 fresco programme by Theodoros Apsevdis, which constitutes one of the most significant examples of late 12th-century monumental painting in Cyprus. The decoration reflects the distinctive artistic language of the late Comnenian period, characterised by refined linearity, monumental figures, and a sophisticated organisation of space, all adapted to the unique architectural environment of Saint Neophytos’ hermitage.

Η φωτογραφία παρουσιάζει το βορειοανατολικό τμήμα της λαξευτής στην πέτρα οροφής και των ανώτερων επιφανειών των τοίχων του ιερού της Εγκλείστρας του Αγίου Νεοφύτου, πάνω από την Αγία Τράπεζα.
Η λαξευμένη επιφάνεια της οροφής αρθρώνεται μέσω ζωγραφικών αρχιτεκτονικών διαχωρισμών, οι οποίοι δημιουργούν την ψευδαίσθηση ενός δομημένου αρχιτεκτονικού πλαισίου. Οι εικονιζόμενες παραστάσεις περιλαμβάνουν την Ανάληψη του Χριστού στο ανώτερο τμήμα της οροφής και τον Ευαγγελισμό στη βόρεια πλευρά, πάνω από τη θύρα εισόδου, όπου η Θεοτόκος και ο Αρχάγγελος Γαβριήλ πλαισιώνουν τη μορφή του Χριστού Εμμανουήλ. Απεικονίζεται επίσης η Παναγία Ορανς, περιβαλλόμενη από Πατέρες της Εκκλησίας.
Το συγκεκριμένο βορειοανατολικό τμήμα εντάσσεται στο εξαιρετικό διακοσμητικό σύνολο που συνδέεται με το ζωγραφικό πρόγραμμα του 1183, έργο του Θεοδώρου Αψευδή, το οποίο αποτελεί ένα από τα σημαντικότερα παραδείγματα μνημειακής ζωγραφικής του τέλους του 12ου αιώνα στην Κύπρο. Ο διάκοσμος αντανακλά την ιδιαίτερη καλλιτεχνική γλώσσα της ύστερης κομνήνειας περιόδου, η οποία χαρακτηρίζεται από εκλεπτυσμένη γραμμικότητα, μνημειακές μορφές και σύνθετη οργάνωση του χώρου, προσαρμοσμένες στο μοναδικό αρχιτεκτονικό περιβάλλον του ερημητηρίου του Αγίου Νεοφύτου.
