            Description
Gastronomy is defined as the art and science of good eating and drinking and the basis of Epicurian philosophy is the pursuit of pleasure but not the indulgence of overeating.Yet eating is one of the pleasures of life that excites our desires and anticipation of satisfaction. A well prepared and pleasantly presented meal delights the eye and improves the appetite, while all our senses contribute to the enjoyment of a simple meal or feast.
When our ancestors progressed from being hunter-gatherers to settled farmers who began to cook their meals, food became the most essential part of our survival. In due course we humans learnt to preserve, freeze, process or dry our food and in the 20th century we learnt to increase production by introducing mechanized farming.
Humanity’s consumption of food has risen to such a level that many scientists question our ability to meet future generations’ needs as population growth is projected to reach 9 billion by 2050. In many countries obesity is becoming a problem and a burden on health authorities.
“Annapurna” is the Hindu Goddess of food.
