Here we have yet another 14th century wall painting depicting the birth of Christ from the Church of Panagia tis Asinou near the village of Nikitari. The church which dates from the beginning of the 12th century belonged to the disused monastery "of the Phorbia" which flourished here at least till the 17th century. The interior of the church is completely painted in Byzantine manner ; the paintings being of various dates from the early 12th century on wards. Other paintings include the Forty Martyrs, the Transfiguration of Christ, the donor presenting a model of the church to Christ and many more. The paintings were cleaned and preserved between 1965-1967 and the church is on the list of World Heritage Sites. (Extract from: The Painted Churches of Cyprus)
