The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was founded in Paris on 21st May 1904, but international activities began only after South Africa joined in 1909/10, Argentina and Chile in 1912 and the U.S.A. in 1913. The first World Cup was played in Montevideo on 18th July 1930. In 1974, Dr. Joao Havelenge was elected President of FIFA and over 25 years catapulted football into being the world’s major entertainment game embracing whole nations and peoples. With 204 member associations it is now one of the largest leisure industries in the world. Year Country Finals
