Title

Red Scorpion Fish, Fishes of Cyprus Thematic Issue, Republic of Cyprus

Description

The Red Scorpion fish belongs to the scorpaenidea family which includes the Black Scorpion fish and the Blue Mouth. It is found all over the Mediterranean Sea mostly in deeper waters. It grows to a length of 50 cm. and its dominant color is red or orange. Its Greek name is scorpena and in Turkish it is called Kirmizi iskorpit. This family of fish known by their French name rascasses makes the best ingredient for the French dish "bouillabaisse" and a red scorpion fish serves as the most memorable symbol of Mediterranean fish. A large Red Scorpion fish may be successfully baked and will then present a dramatic appearance at table providing good helpings of remarkably firm white flesh.
