Title
Wood Carving Cyprus Popular Art, 30th Anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus, Republic of Cyprus
Description
Andreas A. Ioannides, the designer of these stamps is a well-known Cypriot artist who excels on the international scene. From 1978 to 1994 he designed the majority of Cyprus stamps. He is renowned for the depth of his knowledge in the traditions and history of the place, the simplicity of his lines,
his high technical skill, the modern way in which he presents the subjects and the color harmony of his creations. The stamps and miniature sheet are details of a whole, which is left to our imagination to create. The details are inspired from wooden carvings of Cypriot popular craft and pottery of the Archaic Period. From the manner in which he expresses and presents his work, it appears that he is striving to achieve the fulfillment of the souls.
