Description

This stamp depicts a Greco -Roman statue of "Bathing Aphrodite" which was found at Soloi and is now in the Cyprus Museum. Aphrodite was the adopted daughter of Zeus. In Roman, Phoenician and Ar menian mythologies she was Venus, Astarte and Anahid respec tively. In myth she inspired sweet passion in Gods and men beguiling even Zeus to mate with mortal women. Among her notable victims in the myths
were Helen, wife of Menelaos for whose sake the Greeks fought at Troy, and Medeia, the enchantress who aided Jason and the Argonauts. (Extract from: Mythology, Richard Cavendish)
