Title

Ceramic Vessel 2100-2000 µ.C., EUROPA Issue Handicraft, Republic of Cyprus

Description

Here we have a red polished composite vase with engraved pattern and composed of seven small and large intercommunicating jugs with double or triple necks. It belongs to the Early Bronze Age 2100-2000 B.C. a period in the history of Cyprus about which much has yet to be learnt. This vase is from the cemetery of Vouni, one of the largest from this period and from where another cult vessel in the same red polished ware is in the City of Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. The vase on the stamp and another ritual vessel also from Vounous and made in the same manner are now in the Cyprus Museum, Nicosia. (Extract from Footprints in Cyprus, and Cyprus Museum)
