Description

This stamp depictds the gold medal won by Antonis Georgallidis in the 200 meters race in the ISF World Gymnasiade held in Orleans, France, in 1976. His record time of 21.40 seconds still stands unbroken. The ISF World Gymnasiade is a multi-sport games organized by the International School Sport Federation for athletes under the age of 18. The first games were held in 1974 and subsequently every two years until 1990 after which they were held every four years. In 1994 the Gymnasiade was held in Nicosia and a 20 cents stamp commemorating the event was issued as part of a set of four stamps covering international anniversaries and events.
