The standard of health in Cyprus is pretty high. Average life expectancy for men is 75.3 years and for women 80.4 years. The World Health Organization in examining the effectiveness of health services in 191 countries placed Cyprus 24th to either free treatment or at reduced costs in all state medical centers. Well- equipped private clinics with highly qualified doc tors, specialists and surgeons complement the state services. Kidney, and bone marrow transplants,open-heart surgery as well as neuro -surgery are a matter of routine in Cyprus, and infec tious diseases with the exception of AIDS do not constitute a cause of concern in the domain of public health.when he completed the 400 meters hurdles in the world record time of 47.82 seconds, running as he did in the first and most difficult of all lanes.
