Dublin Core

Title

A Pair of Donors, 3rd Historic Definitive Issue of the Republic of Cyprus, Republic of Cyprus

Description

The wall painting illustrated on this stamp is that of a husband and wife, one of two couples, who paid for the decoration of the Church of St. Mamas; a small chapel built in the middle of the village of Louvaras, which lies, on the south side of the Troodos range of mountains. The full painting shows the two couples kneeling on either side of a long dedicatory inscription which informs us that the church was built in 1455 A.D. by Constantine the Chief priest, while the paintings were done by a Philip Goul in 1495.
