Title

3rd Historic Definitive Issue of the Republic of Cyprus, Republic of Cyprus

Description

The 12th century B.C. saw the advancement of metallurgical techniques, which had been introduced by the Achaeans, and one such example is this bronze statue of a male figure
wearing a conical cap with horns, known as the "Horned God". In the sanctuary where he was
found during excavations at Engomi, a sacrificial altar and a table of offerings were also found as well as skulls of horned animals, leading one to conjecture that he was worshipped as a God of fertility, protecting cattle and shepherds. The statue dates from the Late Bronze Age (1200-1150 B.C.) and
is now in the Cyprus Museum in Nicosia.
