Dublin Core
Title
I.C.Y. Emblem, International Co-Operation Year Commemorative Issue, Republic of Cyprus
Description
Operation that emphasizes positive co-operation as opposed to conflicts was first expounded by the Late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of India during his speech at the 16th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in November 1961. It was not until 1963 that the Assembly unanimously designated 1965, the 20th year of the United Nations as the International Co-Operation Year (I.C.Y.). The basis of international co-operation and communication is the availability and free flow of information between organizations at local, national and international levels and the continued development, improvement and maintenance of all contacts worldwide.
The stamps illustrate the I.C.Y. symbol of two joint hands framed by olive wreaths and the inscription "International Co-Operation Year 1965" in Greek.
