Title

Runners, Olympic Games Issue Tokyo, Republic of Cyprus

Description

The Olympic Games of Tokyo 1964 were the first ever to be held in Asia (Far East) and Japan did not lose the opportunity to organize the Games using the latest technology, thus fulfilling the words of Pierre de Coubertin who had said in 1893 that the revival of the Games should comply with the applications of contemporary life. The Olympic flame was lit by Yousonari Sakai who was not an athlete. He was born nineteen years earlier on 6th August 1945 not far from Hiroshima where the first atomic bomb was dropped. By this the Japanese were proclaiming: "We live in a different age, new, and very promising".
