Description
This Christmas set depicts frescos from the Latin Chapel of the monastery of St. John Lampadistis in the village of Kalopanayotis. These 15th Century frescos are part of a series of wall paintings in the Italo-Byzantine style illustrating the famous hymn in honour of the Virgin Mary, sung in the Greek Church, in parts, during the evening services on the first four Fridays of Lent and wholly on the fifth day. The hymn known as "Akathistos" because it is sung standing up consists of twenty four stanzas.
