Description
Saint Helena is portrayed in an imperial attire, as the crown, loros and red shoes reveal and the sigla identify her.
She is depicted on one of the thirteenth century strengthened responds, and therefore it was not painted over frescoes belonging to the original programme.
Her depiction without her son, Constantine, accompanying her, and her reappearance within the naos seems absurd. Despite this paradox of singularity, it may underscores Saint Helena’s contribution to the establishment of the correlation of the relics of Holy Cross with Cyprus, which was shaped around 1340s, within the period of the second phase of painting of the Asinou.
