Description

Saint Memnon is depicted above Saint Peter on the south strengthened respond of the central bay and is dated to the fourteenth century A.D. On the north respond across, saint Tryphon is portrayed and they are associated with each other.
Memnon occurs for the first time in the fourteenth century. His and Tryphon’s inclusion may be explained through their attribute as defenders of the locusts. The first recorded instance of a plague of locusts occurred in 1351 A.D, around the date when Asinou was repainted .
