Ioulitta

Description
Saint Ioulitta, can be found on the lower zone, of the eastern face of the western transverse arch of the nave, and dates to the fourteenth century as the frescoes of the central naos.
Ioulitta is the mother of Saint Kerykos, who is depicted on either side of the arch. Their representation may be explained as the donor’s will to embed locally venerated saints, within the sanctoral iconographic programme of the nave.
Additionally they seem to fall into another theme, promoted by the iconographic programme of the nave. Along with Anna and her daughter, and Elena and her son, they praise the theme of giving birth, and cohesively the unparalleled event of Christ’s birth by the Virgin.
