Description
Established in 1959, the European Court of Human Rights adjudicates on individual and State applications alleging violations of civil and political rights set out in the European Convention on Human Rights.
The court is based in Strasbourg in the Human Rights building the image of which is well known worldwide. Since 1998 the court has delivered more than 10,000 judgements which are binding on all concerned. The Court’s Case Law makes the convention a powerful living instrument in dealing with new challenges and consolidates the rule of law and democracy in Europe.
Forty seven Council of Europe Member States including Cyprus have ratified the Convention.
