Description

The day when the barriers opened from the Turkish military forces at the Buffer Zone (Green Line) at Ledra Palace checkpoint in Nicosia, Cyprus. The United Nations Forces In Cyprus (UNFICYP) responsible for the supervision of the ceasefire lines in Nicosia trying to control the checkpoint from the Greek Cypriot people, who wanted to visit their properties in the occupied area of the island after the Turkish invasion in 1974. Nicosia is the last divided city on the territory of the European Union.
Η ιστορική ημέρα διάνοιξης των οδοφραγμάτων από τις Τουρκικές δυνάμεις στην Νεκρή Ζώνη και συγκεκριμένα στο οδόφραγμα του Λήδρα Πάλας στην Λευκωσία. Οι στρατιώτες της Ειρηνευτικής Δύναμης των Ηνωμένων Εθνών στην Κύπρο (UNFICYP), οι οποίοι είναι υπεύθυνοι για την επίβλεψη της γραμμής κατάπαυσης του πυρός, προσπαθούν να ελέγξουν το πλήθος των Ελληνοκυπρίων, που επιθυμούσε να επισκεφθεί τις ιδιοκτησίες του στις κατεχόμενες, από το 1974, περιοχές. Η Λευκωσία αποτελεί την τελυευταία διαιρεμένη πρωτεύουσα της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης.
