Title
Silver Jubilee 1977m Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Issuem Republic of Cyprus
Description
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was born in London on 21st April 1926. When her uncle King Edward VIII abdicated in 1936, and her father became King she became heir presumptive to the throne. At the death of her father King George VI on 6th February 1952, she became Queen of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Head of the Commonwealth and Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Her coronation at Westminster Abbey was on 2nd June 1953 and 68 countries and territories of the commonwealth including Cyprus issued 106 stamps commemorating the event. Right from the start of her reign new hopes were kindled for a second ""Elizabethan Age"", but this never materialized. Instead she has presided over the decline of Great Britain as a world and economic power and the dissolution of the British Empire. Even the Commonwealth over which she has presided has been losing its influence in world affairs and appears to be fading away. As Head of State she has travelled to many countries of the Commonwealth and made many State visits to countries in America, Europe, Asia and the Far East.
She regularly attends Commonwealth Heads of Government meetings and in 1993 she attended the meeting held in Limassol. The Queen has never given press interviews and she never voices publicly her political views. In diplomatic circles she is extremely formal and protocol in dealing with her is very strict.
