Embroidery and needlework have been a universally known and appreciated for m of Folk Art since ancient times and many antique examples worked in cotton, linen and/ or silk can be found in museums around the world. In Cyprus both for ms of art are passed from grandmother, to daughter, to granddaughter who spend most of their time making magnificent pieces of work such as bed covers, or namental valances, table cloths, handkerchiefs, head scarves etc., which would for m an essential part of the bride's dowry. The three most famous villages in Cyprus for this delicate art work are: Lefkara, Lapithos and Karavas.
