By 1897 her popularity was ensured and the ceremonial role of the British Monarchy firmly established. By the time of her death she had become the single most obvious link holding together the world's largest empire where one person in four was a subject of Queen Victoria. By the late 1870’s her conservative Prime Minister Disraeli had managed to coax her back into public view. Queen Victoria described herself as a liberal and supported constitutional government, free trade and religious tolerance. In 1877 Disraeli made her Empress of India, a title she carried until her death in 1901.Date of withdrawal 1892 - 1896.
