In the tiny island of Petra tou Limnite, one of the oldest settlements in Cyprus (7000-5310 B.C.) was discovered. Here, the Swedish Archaeological Mission carried out excavations between 1927 and 1931. The fate of antiquities remains unknown, as the island falls within a military zone of the occupying forces.

At the top of the Vouni hill, a large palatial complex was excavated in 1928 – 1929. Four construction phases are represented in the palatial complex, corresponding to teo periods of the Cypro-Classical years (from the early to the mid-5th century B.C. and from 450 to 380 B.C. respectively). The limestone column capital with a representation of the goddess Hathor in relief corroborates the Eastern influence of the first palace’s architectural style.
