Subsequent to an article related to the Antikythera Mechanism by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki team (Marianna Efstathiou and Kyriakos Efstathiou) published in the Journal of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society decided to declare the Mechanism as a historic mechanical landmark. A team representing the Society took part at the ceremony, which was held at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens in May 2019. During the ceremony, the Antikythera Mechanism was presented by Ioannis Seiradakis, Marianna Efstathiou and Alexandros Tourtas, a few members of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki team investigating the Mechanism. Main speaker was the Director of the National Archaeological Museum, Maria Lagogianni, while also the president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers read his response. The ceremony ended by delivering the plaque declaring the Mechanism as a historic mechanic landmark.
