The legend of Digenis Akritas
Digenis Akritas was the most courageous of all the Akrites, who guarded the borders of Byzantium. They caused fear and terror to the Saracens who came from the mountains of Central Asia.
The giant stone that dominates the sea and is called "Petra tou Romiou", is associated with the legend of Digenes Akritas, from whom the area took its name.
According to legend, Digenis Akritas, the legendary Byzantine hero, during the 7th - 10th century, in order to repel the Saracen Arabs, who were preparing to plunder the area, grabbed onto the mountain range of Kyrenia by his one hand as a result of which it took the shape and the name Pentadaktylos (meaning five fingers) and with his other hand lifted a huge rock (the Stone of Romios – Petra tou Romiou) and threw it into the sea against the Saracens who left fleeing.
The Secret Treasure of Regina
Regina, namely the Queen, is a mysterious person mentioned in several myths and legends of Cyprus.
Some of these legends are connected to the castle of Vufavendo, in which, according to tradition, Regina hid her treasures in one of its 101 rooms.
One of the legends states that every night on which the Resurrection of Christ was celebrated, a secret door would open for a short period of time through which someone could gain access to Regina's room containing the treasures.
On one night of the Resurrection of Christ, a shepherd entered the room, but the door closed before he could collect the treasures.
The shepherd had a pomegranate with him and by eating a piece every day he was kept alive until the following year when on the night of the Resurrection the secret door opened and he gained his freedom.

World Autism Awareness Day
The World Autism Awareness Day was established in 2007 by the United Nations (UN) and is celebrated annually on April 2nd to raise awareness of the needs of persons with autism by contributing to their acceptance and integration into society.
On this day, hundreds of buildings around the world light up in blue by participating in the "Light it up Blue" event.
The blue of the sea, the blue of the sky, the blue that embraces the skills and talents of persons with autism, shedding light on the dark side of isolation and marginalization.
60 Years since the creation of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry
2022 is a particularly important year for the Limassol Chamber of Commerce & Industry, which this year celebrates 60 years of creative presence in the economic and business events of the town and district of Limassol.
On the 4th of September 1962, two great institutions which already used to collaborate closely, the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Limassol Development Association, formally joined forces by creating the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Since then, the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EVEL) is committed to serving the main objectives of the two pre-existing bodies, namely the provision of support to entrepreneurs at a multiple level, and the diversified promotion of the development needs of the town and district of Limassol.
For this specific reason, EVEL has since played an important role in supporting its members in various manners, at a collective, sectorial and individual level, and acts a as a lever of awakening and exerting pressure in order to create the necessary projects that will strengthen Limassol's competitiveness and will upgrade the quality of life of its inhabitants.
50 years since the creation of the Pancyprian Organization of Large Families
The Pancyprian Organization of Large Families (P.O.P.) celebrates 50 years since its establishment (in 1971) and 50 years of operation.
The role and mission of the P.O.P. is to provide support to large families by means of upgrading family policy, the protection and safeguarding of social rights, the fight against social exclusion, the development and prosperity for large families, the promotion of actions regarding employment, housing and education, tackling the problem of low birth rate, etc.
P.O.P.’s vision has always been the recognition of the great contribution made by large families by the State, by the Church and by Society. This has become a reality and the contribution made by large families is now respected and appreciated.
P.O.P.’s vision and goals never cease. Its work and action include highlighting the demographic problem, the struggle to raise and improve the standard of living and the benefits afforded to large families, as well as elevating the family institution.

Owls are nocturnal birds and formidable silent hunters. There are some 200 species around the world. They are carnivorous, eating small birds, rodents, insects and beetles. They have no teeth but tear the flesh of their prey with their hooked bills. They can swallow small prey whole.
The barn owl, Tyto alba, is a widely distributed species of owls and the most widespread of all, to be found all around the world.
The Cyprus Scops owl, Otus cyprius, is endemic bird of Cyprus. Is a tiny owl with small ear-tufts. It is unique to Cyprus and its song and plumage are sufficiently distinct.

In a significant collaboration between the UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage at Cyprus University of Technology and the renowned Medelhavsmuseet (Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities) in Stockholm, Sweden, a momentous initiative has been undertaken to digitize the Cyprus Collection.
The Cyprus Collection at Medelhavsmuseet (the Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities) consists of around 1,500 archaeological finds spanning over a period of more than 7,000 years – from Stone Age to Imperial Rome. The finds bear witness to frequent and long-term contacts between Cyprus and other cultures in the eastern Mediterranean area. Most of the artefacts shown in this exhibition originate from the Swedish Cyprus Expedition during 1927 – 1931 when over twenty locations around the island were excavated.
According to the practice at that time, the findings were divided between Sweden and Cyprus with permission from the British Colonial Government. More than half of the findings were allocated to Sweden, thanks to which Medelhavsmuseet now houses one of the largest Cypriot collections outside of Cyprus. This extensive collection is the reason for Medelhavsmuseet being founded in 1954.

Η Κυπριακή Συλλογή στο Medelhavsmuseet (Μουσείο Αρχαιοτήτων της Μεσογείου και της Εγγύς Ανατολής) αποτελείται από περίπου 1.500 αρχαιολογικά ευρήματα που καλύπτουν μια περίοδο άνω των 7.000 ετών - από τη Λίθινη εποχή έως την Αυτοκρατορική Ρώμη. Τα ευρήματα μαρτυρούν συχνές και μακροχρόνιες επαφές μεταξύ της Κύπρου και άλλων πολιτισμών στην περιοχή της ανατολικής Μεσογείου. Τα περισσότερα από τα ευρήματα που παρουσιάζονται στην έκθεση προέρχονται από τη Σουηδική Κυπριακή Αποστολή κατά την περίοδο 1927-1931, κατά την οποία ανασκάφηκαν πάνω από είκοσι τοποθεσίες σε όλο το νησί.

Mouldmade terracotta statuette of sitting woman with a child in her arms. The worman sits on a chair with back support, resting her feet on a small foot stool. She is possibly dressed in a peplos and her hair is concealed by a veil, showing only the curls at the forehead and alongside neck. She wears a tiara. Face is small and elongated with shallow depressions for eyes, small nose and small mouth. The child is wrapped in linen. On the unworked backside is a square venthole, partly reconstructed.
Within the framework of collaboration between Världskulturmuseerna and the UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage at Cyprus University of Technology, the digitization of a substantial portion of the Cypriot collection at Stockholm's Medelhavsmuseet Museum has been accomplished.

Η Κυπριακή Συλλογή στο Medelhavsmuseet (Μουσείο Αρχαιοτήτων της Μεσογείου και της Εγγύς Ανατολής) αποτελείται από περίπου 1.500 αρχαιολογικά ευρήματα που καλύπτουν μια περίοδο άνω των 7.000 ετών - από τη Λίθινη εποχή έως την Αυτοκρατορική Ρώμη. In a significant collaboration between the UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage at Cyprus University of Technology and the renowned Medelhavsmuseet (Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities) in Stockholm, Sweden, a momentous initiative has been undertaken to digitize the Cyprus Collection.
The Cyprus Collection at Medelhavsmuseet (the Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities) consists of around 1,500 archaeological finds spanning over a period of more than 7,000 years – from Stone Age to Imperial Rome. The finds bear witness to frequent and long-term contacts between Cyprus and other cultures in the eastern Mediterranean area. Most of the artefacts shown in this exhibition originate from the Swedish Cyprus Expedition during 1927 – 1931 when over twenty locations around the island were excavated.
According to the practice at that time, the findings were divided between Sweden and Cyprus with permission from the British Colonial Government. More than half of the findings were allocated to Sweden, thanks to which Medelhavsmuseet now houses one of the largest Cypriot collections outside of Cyprus. This extensive collection is the reason for Medelhavsmuseet being founded in 1954.

Male, bearded head wearing headgear with three rosettes, one in front and the others above each ear. The beard is rendered by an incised line. The central part of the chin is very protruding - there is a rather sharp transition between this part of the chin and the rest of the jaw. The mouth is unproportionally small compared to the face in general, and the lips are extremely thin. The lips are quite protruding, especially the middle part of the mouth. The distance between the upper lip and the nose is very short. The eyebrows are arched. The large semicircular eyes are slightly bulging with sculpted lids. The ears are sculpted rather flat. The head is rather square in shape. The back of the head is flat and roughly made. The material is hard limestone of light colour.

Η Κυπριακή Συλλογή στο Medelhavsmuseet (Μουσείο Αρχαιοτήτων της Μεσογείου και της Εγγύς Ανατολής) αποτελείται από περίπου 1.500 αρχαιολογικά ευρήματα που καλύπτουν μια περίοδο άνω των 7.000 ετών - από τη Λίθινη εποχή έως την Αυτοκρατορική Ρώμη. Τα ευρήματα μαρτυρούν συχνές και μακροχρόνιες επαφές μεταξύ της Κύπρου και άλλων πολιτισμών στην περιοχή της ανατολικής Μεσογείου. Τα περισσότερα από τα ευρήματα που παρουσιάζονται στην έκθεση προέρχονται από τη Σουηδική Κυπριακή Αποστολή κατά την περίοδο 1927-1931, κατά την οποία ανασκάφηκαν πάνω από είκοσι τοποθεσίες σε όλο το νησί.
Σύμφωνα με την τότε ισχύουσα πρακτική, τα ευρήματα μοιράστηκαν μεταξύ Σουηδίας και Κύπρου με την άδεια της Βρετανικής Αποικιακής Κυβέρνησης. An account of the resource
In a significant collaboration between the UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage at Cyprus University of Technology and the renowned Medelhavsmuseet (Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities) in Stockholm, Sweden, a momentous initiative has been undertaken to digitize the Cyprus Collection.
The Cyprus Collection at Medelhavsmuseet (the Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities) consists of around 1,500 archaeological finds spanning over a period of more than 7,000 years – from Stone Age to Imperial Rome. The finds bear witness to frequent and long-term contacts between Cyprus and other cultures in the eastern Mediterranean area. Most of the artefacts shown in this exhibition originate from the Swedish Cyprus Expedition during 1927 – 1931 when over twenty locations around the island were excavated.
According to the practice at that time, the findings were divided between Sweden and Cyprus with permission from the British Colonial Government. More than half of the findings were allocated to Sweden, thanks to which Medelhavsmuseet now houses one of the largest Cypriot collections outside of Cyprus. This extensive collection is the reason for Medelhavsmuseet being founded in 1954.
