Ο Σωτήρης ήταν αδελφός του Λεόντιου Θεοφίλου απο την Βατυλή. Έζησε στην Αμερική αλλά όταν επέστρεψε στην Κύπρο έχασε τη ζωή του σε δυστύχημα. Συγκεκριμένα το λεωφορείο στο οποίο επέβαινε, παρασύρθηκε από ποτάμι με αποτέλεσμα τον πνιγμό εκείνου και των υπόλοιπων επιβατών.
Sotiris lived in America for a while but when he returned to Cyprus, he died at an accident. A bus drifted by a river and the passengers, including Sotiris, died.

Κατά την περίοδο του Απελευθερωτικού Αγώνα (1955-1959), ο Λεόντιος Φιλοθέου κατετάγη στην Επικουρική Αστυνομία με σκοπό την απόσπαση πληροφοριών και ενημέρωση της ΕΟΚΑ. Η οργάνωση πρότεινε στον Λεόντιο να ενταχθεί στο συγκεκριμένο σώμα λόγω του γεγονότος ότι γνώριζε σε αρκετά καλό βαθμό την Τουρκική γλώσσα.
During the Greek Cypriot War of Independence (1955-1959), Leontios Filotheou joint the Auxiliary Police force in order to extract information and inform EOKA due to the fact that he knew the Turkish language.
