Η τελετή φαίνεται να πραγματοποιείται στην αυλή του σχολείου και να την παρακολουθούν μαθητές και μαθήτριες του Λανιτείου Ελληνικού Γυμνασίου. Η Στήλη στήθηκε αρχικά το 1915 στον περίβολο του παλαιού κτηρίου του Ελληνικού Γυμνασίου Λεμεσού και μεταφέρθηκε στη σημερινή της θέση με την αποπεράτωση του κτηρίου του Λανιτείου, το 1953.
Στις 14 Δεκεμβρίου 1955, στον χώρο του Λανίτειου Ελληνικού Γυμνασίου μαθητές και μαθήτριες συγκρούστηκαν με Άγγλους στρατιώτες. Οι μαθητές και οι μαθήτριες έριξαν πέτρες στους στρατιώτες, οι οποίοι από μέρους τους υπήρξαν πολύ βίαιοι. Αποκορύφωμα ήταν η ρίψη χειροβομβίδας από μαθητές, που ανέβηκαν στην ταράτσα του σχολείου, και δακρυγόνων από τους Άγγλους στρατιώτες. Ένας στρατιώτης έχασε τη ζωή του μετά τον σοβαρό τραυματισμό του από τη χειροβομβίδα. Οι συνέπειες υπήρξαν άκρως τιμωρητικές για τους μαθητές και τις μαθήτριες, καθώς οι Άγγλοι έκλεισαν το σχολείο, το μετέτρεψαν σε στρατόπεδο και το διέγραψαν από τα μητρώα των σχολείων της Κύπρου. Οι μαθητές και οι μαθήτριες παρακολουθούσαν μαθήματα σε μικρές ομάδες σε σπίτια καθηγητών τους και οι τελειόφοιτοι πήραν απολυτήριο από το Αθηναϊδιον Γυμνάσιον Θηλέων αφού παρακάθησαν στις τελικές εξετάσεις του σχολείου αυτού.
Στις 26 Σεπτεμβρίου 1956, λίγες μέρες πριν επιτραπεί η επαναλειτουργία του σχολείου, η Στήλη που ήταν αφιερωμένη στη μνήμη των πεσόντων μαθητών, ανατινάχθηκε από άγγλους στρατιώτες. Τα κομμάτια της συναρμολογήθηκαν και η Στήλη τοποθετήθηκε στο ίδιο σημείο της αυλής του σχολείου, όπου βρίσκεται μέχρι σήμερα.
Η Στήλη φέρει την επιγραφή:

Μέσω της επιστολής ενημερώνεται ο Πρόξενος της Ελλάδας για την απόφαση της Εφορείας των Ελληνικών Εκπαιδευτηρίων Λεμεσού να πωλήσει στην αποικιοκρατική κυβέρνηση της Κύπρου τα δύο παλαιά σχολικά κτήρια του Ελληνικού Γυμνασίου Λεμεσού, ένα εκ των οποίων ανεγέρθηκε, κατά μεγάλο μέρος, με την οικονομική αρωγή της Ελληνικής Κυβέρνησης, το 1900. Το γεγονός αυτό αναγράφεται σε εντοιχισμένη μαρμάριμη πλάκα, η οποία επρόκειτο να εντοιχιστεί σε περίοπτη θέση στο νεόκτιστο Λανίτειο Ελληνικό Γυμνάσιο, το οποίο θα αποπερατωνόταν με τα έσοδα από την πώληση των δύο παλαιών κτηρίων.
Το 1819, ιδρύθηκε στη Λεμεσό η πρώτη μονοετής Ελληνική Σχολή ή Σχολαρχείο που στεγάστηκε σε ανώγεια κατοικία με τρία δωμάτια, από τα οποία το ένα χρησίμευε ως βιβλιοθήκη. Η Σχολή βρισκόταν στον περίβολο της εκκλησίας της Αγίας Νάπας. Η λειτουργία διακόπηκε το 1821 εξαιτίας της Ελληνικής Επανάστασης αλλά επανάρχισε αργότερα τη λειτουργία της και έγινε τριετούς φοίτησης.
Γύρω στο 1900, το Σχολαρχείο μεταστεγάστηκε σε πιο κατάλληλο οίκημα. Το κτήριο βρισκόταν στον σημερινό δημοτικό χώρο στάθμευσης, απέναντι από το κτήριο Ανδρέα Θεμιστοκλέους του ΤΕΠΑΚ, και ανεγέρθη κυρίως με την οικονομική αρωγή της Ελληνικής Κυβέρνησης. Το 1906, η Σχολή έγινε πεντατάξιο ημιγυμνάσιο, ενώ, τη σχολική χρονιά 1915-16 προστέθηκε και έκτη τάξη, οπότε αναγνωρίστηκε ως πλήρες εξατάξιο γυμνάσιο, ισοδύναμο με τα γυμνάσια του Ελληνικού Κράτους.
Το 1945 αποφασίστηκε όπως το Ελληνικόν Γυμνάσιον Λεμεσού στεγαστεί σε νέο χώρο, δηλ. στο υφιστάμενο κτήριο, δωρεά του εμπόρου Νικολάου Π. Λανίτη. Το Ελληνικό Γυμνάσιο κατά τη σχολική χρονιά 1953 – 1954 λειτούργησε εξ ολοκλήρου στο νέο υπερσύχρονο οίκημα και προς τιμή του μεγάλου ευεργέτη μετονομάστηκε σε Λανίτειο Ελληνικό Γυμνάσιο.
Το παλαιό κτήριο κατεδαφίστηκε και η επιγραφή σε μαρμάρινη πλάκα, η οποία αναφέρεται στα εγκαίνιά του, το 1900, μεταφέρθηκε και επιτοιχίσθηκε πάνω από την ανατολική είσοδο του νέου κτηρίου, όπου υπάρχει μέχρι σήμερα.

Θέμα της επιστολής ήταν η ανάθεση στο Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών να ανακοινώσει στην Εφορεία Σχολείων Λεμεσού, δια του Προξένου της Ελλάδας στην Κύπρο, ότι το Ανώτερον Παρθεναγωγείον που λειτουργεί στην πόλη αναγνωρίστηκε ως ισότιμο με τις αστικές σχολές θηλέων του Ελληνικού Κράτους. Το 1861 αρχίζει να λειτουργεί στη Λεμεσό το Παρθεναγωγείον «Ελπίς» όπου διδάσκονταν στοιχειώδη μαθήματα. Η Πολυξένη Λοϊζιάς, απόφοιτος του Παρθεναγωγείου, με σπουδές στη Σμύρνη και στο «Παλλάδιον» εκπαιδευτήριο Κωνσταντινουπόλεως, ανέλαβε το 1878 ως Διευθύντρια. Η Π. Λοϊζιάς κατόρθωσε να ιδρύσει τάξη Ελληνικού θέτοντας τις βάσεις για την ίδρυση Ανώτερου Παρθεναγωγείου. Στη συνέχεια προστέθηκαν ακόμα δύο τάξεις και τη σχολική χρονιά 1923 – 1924, το Ανώτερο Παρθεναγωγείο χωρίστηκε από το Δημοτικό και συνέχισε τη λειτουργία του ως τριτάξιο αυτόνομο εκπαιδευτήριο. Η Ελληνική Κυβέρνηση Ελευθέριου Βενιζέλου αναγνώρισε αμέσως το σχολείο ως ισότιμο με αυτά του Ελληνικού Κράτους. Τη σχολική χρονιά 1949 – 1950 το σχολείο συγχωνεύεται με το Ελληνικόν Γυμνάσιον, το παλαιότερο σχολείο της Λεμεσού, το οποίο αποτελούνταν πλέον από δύο εξατάξια τμήματα, αρρένων και θηλέων. Τη σχολική χρονιά 1960 – 1961 το σχολείο ξεκινά νέα πορεία πάλι ως αυτόνομο υπό την ονομασία Α΄ Γυμνάσιον Θηλέων ενώ τη σχολική χρονιά 1973 – 1974 μετονομάζεται σε Ε’ Γυμνάσιο Λεμεσού. Τη σχολική χρονιά 1987 – 1988 διαχωρίζεται από το Γυμνάσιο και μετονομάζεται σε Λανίτειο Λύκειο Β’ και τη σχολική χρονιά 2013 - 2014 ενοποιείται με το Λανίτειο Λύκειο Α’, που αποτελεί τη μετεξέλιξη του Ελληνικού Γυμνασίου, και αποκτούν την ονομασία Λανίτειο Λύκειο.
The Minister of Education assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to announce to the administration board of schools of Limassol district via the consul of Greece in Cyprus that the Girls' school in Limassol was recognised as equal to the colleges of the Republic of Greece. Elpis school was founded in 1861 and in 1878, Polyxeni Loizias, graduate of the Elpis school, took over as school's principal. She founded the course of Greek language upon which the establishment of the Girls' school was based. During the 1923-1924 school year, two classes were added and the Girls' school was separated from the Primary school. The Greek government recognised the school as equal to the colleges of the Republic of Greece. During the 1949-1950 school year, the school was unified with the Greek High School, the oldest school of Limassol, and was consisted of two, one for boys and one for girls, six grades classes. During the 1960-1961 school year, the school was turned autonomous again under the name 1st Girls' High School while during the 1973-1974 school year was renamed as the 5th High School of Limassol. During the 1987-1988 school year, the High School was separated and was renamed into the Lanitio High School II and during the 2013-2014 school year it was unified with the Lanitio High School I and they were renamed into the Lanitio High School.
