Ο ψυχρός καιρός επέτρεπε την καλύτερη διατήρηση και επεξεργασία του δέρματος και το ζώο έπρεπε να συμπληρώσει τα δύο χρόνια ζωής του. Οι βοσκοί επέλεγαν βάσει εμπειρίας τα κατάλληλα ζώα και η σφαγή και το γδάρσιμό τους γινόταν πολύ προσεκτικά, ώστε να μη φθαρεί το δέρμα.Τους ασκούς τους χρησιμοποιούσαν για την αποθήκευση και ασφαλή μεταφορά κυρίως κρασιού, ζιβανίας, ξιδιού και άλλων υγρών. Πάνω στον ασκό φαίνονται σε διαφορά σημεία αναδιπλώσεις του δέρματος και είναι τα τμήματα που αφαιρέθηκαν απο τα πόδια του ζώου. Η πρώτη γίνεται κάτω χαμηλά και δένεται με την βοήθεια σχοινιού από φυτικό υλικό, μάλλον καννάβι. Στο πάνω μέρος υπάρχουν δυο σημεία που αναδιπλώνεται το δέρμα με οπές, μια στο πλάι και μια στο πίσω μέρος, που κλείνουν με σχοινί από λινάρι.
