Με την εγκατάλειψή του μοναστηριού το 1964, η εικόνα μεταφέρθηκε για ασφάλεια στην εκκλησία του Αγίου Λουκά της Ορούντας, όπου φυλάσσεται μέχρι σήμερα. Η εικόνα (διαστάσεων 49x86 εκ.) είναι ιδιάζουσας τεχνοτροπίας και ανήκει στη μεταβυζαντινή Κυπριακή σχολή, το όνομα του καλλιτέχνη αναγνωρίζεται ως Λουκάς [ΧΕΙΡ ΛΟΥΚΑ] και είναι του 16ου αιώνα [ΑΦξΒ XΥ (1562 έτος Χ(ριστο)Υ)]. Σε αντίθεση με πολλές άλλες εικόνες του Αγίου Γεωργίου σε αυτή δεν παρουσιάζονται ο δράκος και η πριγκίπισσα [η παράδοση του Αγίου Γεωργίου ως δρακοντοκτόνου είναι μεταγενέστερη-δυτικής επίδρασης], αλλά ο νεαρός στρατηλάτης Άγιος μεταφέρει απελευθερωθέντα αιχμάλωτο [των αιχμαλώτων ελευθερωτής και των πτωχών υπερασπιστής] και το άλογο βαδίζει από δεξιά προς τα αριστερά (βλέποντάς την) στην επιφάνεια νερού σε Νειλωτικό τοπίο (τύπος «Διασωρίτη» από τα Διάσωρα της Μικρασίας, από όπου ήρθαν στην Κύπρο διωγμένοι άνθρωποι και εικόνες). Στη συνέχεια εργάστηκε στο Καραβοστάσι με την Κυπριακή Μεταλλευτική Εταιρεία (CMC) μέχρι το 1974, που κατελήφθη η περιοχή από τους Τούρκους. Στα επόμενα 10 περίπου χρόνια εργάστηκε στις Αραβικές χώρες του Κόλπου με την Εταιρεία Ιωάννου & Παρασκευαΐδης (J&P). Τέλος, εργάστηκε _πάντοτε ως μηχανικός αυτοκινήτων_ στο Κεραμείο Λεμεσού μέχρι την αφυπηρέτησή του το 2001. Ο γράφων θυμάται τον νεαρό Γιώργο τα χρόνια 1956-59 να τρέχει στα μνημόσυνα των ηρώων της ΕΟΚΑ και λίγο αργότερα αρραβωνιασμένο στην πάνω γειτονιά ποζάροντας με ένα μεταχειρισμένο γαλάζιο Renault Dolfin και ξετρελαίνοντας τη γειτονιά με το γραμμόφωνό του. Το 1959 ο Γιώργος αρραβωνιάστηκε και νυμφεύτηκε τη Χριστού του μαστρε-Γιαννή Παπαχριστοδούλου, με την οποία απέκτησαν 4 παιδιά (Κώστας, Τάκης, Μαρούλα, Γιάννος) και 14 εγγόνια [(Γιώργος, Έλενα, Χριστίνα, Μάριος), (Εύη, Κωνσταντίνα, Χριστίνα), (Γιώργος, Κωνσταντίνος, Χριστίνα, Θεόδωρος), (Μαρία, Γιώργος και Αλέξανδρος)] και 6 δισέγγονα [(Κύπρος, Κώστας), (Φίλιππος)], (Σάββας, Βικτώρια), (Χριστόφορος). Νωρίς το 1956 ορίστηκε από τον Τομεάρχη Πιτσιλιάς καιλίγο αργότερα Υπαρχηγό της ΕΟΚΑ Γρηγόρη Αυξεντίου ως ομαδάρχης της νεαρής μάχιμης ομάδας Κυπερούντας. Πήρε μέρος σε δυο ενέδρες, στο ξενοδοχείο του Σανατορίου με δυο μέλη της ομάδας του και στην Τριμίκλινη υπό τον Στυλιανό Λένα. Για την ανδρεία του μισήθηκε, υποσκάφτηκε και συκοφαντήθηκε από άλλους αγωνιστές με αποτέλεσμα να εκτελεσθεί άδικα από την ΕΟΚΑ στις 7.9.1956 σε απόμερη περιοχή μεταξύ Αγριδιών και Ποταμίτισσας. Από έρευνα που διεξήγαγε ο Διγενής αποδείχτηκε ότι οι κατηγορίες ήταν κακόβουλες συκοφαντίες και η εκτέλεσή του λάθος. Με εντολή του Διγενή αποκατεστάθηκε και τιμήθηκε «ως αρμόζει σε αγωνιστάς που έπεσαν για την πατρίδα».
