It was built in 1900 AD and had been anointed in April 1910 AD by the Bishop of Kition, Meletios Metaxakis. The church was restored in 2001. In the same area, about 100m to the east of St. Minas church is the chapel of St. Athanasios and Kyrillos, opposite the old school, nowadays the cultural center of the municipality. Seems to have been the community’s church from the time it was built (17th century) until the completion of the church of St. Minas, which was built at the end of the first decade of the 20th century.. The difference in size of the two churches concludes to the population increase of the community, starting from The Ottoman Rule to the early 20th century. According to the first data of The British Rule in 1881, the number of residents of the community counted 172, with a stable increasing rate, therefore it is reasonable to assume that when the small church of Agios Athanasios was built, the number of residents was much smaller than the above number. For this reason, the capacity of the church is limited to a few dozen worshipers. Ο ενοριακός ναός στον ιστορικό πυρήνα του Δήμου Αγίου Αθανασίου είναι αφιερωμένος στον Άγιο Μηνά. Κτίστηκε το 1900μ.χ. και μυρώθηκε τον Απρίλιο του 1910μ.χ. επί Μελετίου Μεταξάκη Μητροπολίτου Κιτίου. Ο ναός αναπαλαιώθηκε το έτος 2001. Περί τα εκατόν μέτρα ανατολικά του ενοριακού αυτού ναού βρίσκεται το παρεκκλήσιο των Αγίου Αθανασίου και Κυρίλλου που είναι ακριβώς απέναντι από το παλιό δημοτικό σχολείο, το σημερινό πολιτιστικό κέντρο του δήμου. Φαίνεται ότι υπήρξε ο ενοριακός ναός της κοινότητας από την εποχή που κτίστηκε (17ος αιώνας) μέχρι την αποπεράτωση του κατά πολύ νεώτερου ναού του Αγίου Μηνά στο τέλος της πρώτης δεκαετίας του 20ού αιώνα. Η σύγκριση του μεγέθους των δύο ναών επιβεβαιώνει την πληθυσμιακή εξέλιξη της κοινότητας από την αρχή της Τουρκοκρατίας μέχρι τις αρχές του 20ού αιώνα. It is a vaulted type church. It was refurbished in 1995 after its declaration to a monument by the Antiquities Department. The four Evangelists are located in the four internal angles that define the two arches and the horizontal dividing decorations, as is customary in the dome drums of domed churches. Lower to the right the painting of Evangelist Luke is seen. The inscription around Christ Pantocrator says: " APO ANATOLON HELIOU MEXRI DYSMON TO ONOMA MOU DEDOXASTAI EN TOIS ETHNESIN KAI EN PANTI TOPO THYMIAMA PROSFERETAI TO ONOMATI MOU” meaning “ From sunrise until sunset, my name will be glorified in all nations and incense will be offered in my name, in all countries”. The chapel was fully decorated with murals by painter father Evangelos Yiallourides and members of his workshop after its restoration in 1995. The only surviving mural as it is today after the maintenance of Kyriakos Papaioakim and Costas Gerasimou.
