Το αλακάτιν (αλλιώς μαγγανοπήγαδο/νερόμυλος) ήταν εξελιγμένο σύστημα άντλησης νερού και η εγκατάστασή του γινόταν στο στόμιο λάκκων σε περιοχές με πλούσιο υδατικό υπόστρωμα και επιφανειακή καυκάλλα όπως αυτές των Κοκκινοχωρίων, της Περιστερωνοπηγής, του Τράχωνα και της Κοκκινοτριμιθιάς, των πεδινών περιοχών όπως του Ιδαλίου και των παράκτιων περιοχών της Λάρνακας, της Λεμεσού, της Πάφου και της Κερύνειας. Το αλακάτιν λειτουργούσε από ζώο που περιστρεφόταν γύρω από τον λάκκο και στην Κύπρο το πιο συνηθισμένο ζώο ήταν το γαϊδούρι και, σπανιότερα, η αγελάδα.

Ρεπορτάζ όπως δημοσιεύτηκε στο κυπριακό περιοδικό ΕΝΗΜΕΡΩΣΗ από την δημοσιογράφο Αστέρω Μενοίκου,
Νίκος Ζαννετής: "Ο αδελφός μου μου δίδαξε την φωτογραφική τέχνη από το 1945. Η τέχνη αυτή ήταν κάποτε επικερδής. ΄Οπως ο πατέρας μου έτσι και εγώ ήμουν πλανόδιος φωτογράφος. Γύρισα όλη την Κύπρο με τη φωτογραφική στο χέρι. Τα παλιά χρόνια είχαμε πολλή δουλειά. Θυμάμαι πήγαινα σε διάφορα σχολεία της Κύπρου και έβγαζα στους μαθητές αναμνηστικές φωτογραφίες.
Τώρα η δουλειά μας έπεσε γιατί μας κτυπούν οι φωτογράφοι με τις αυτόματες έγχρωμες φωτογραφίες που βγάζουν. Σκοπεύουμε να σταματήσουμε γιατί δεν υπάρχει πλέον δουλειά για μας εδώ.
Με την τέχνη αυτή ανάγιωσα έξι παιδιά".
Ευάγγελος Ζαννετής : "Αρχισα από 14 χρονών το επάγγελμα του φωτογράφου. Τα παλιά χρόνια είχαμε πολλή δουλειά αλλά τώρα μόλις που βγάζουμε το ψωμί μας. Ερχόμαστε εδώ για χόμπι πλέον. Οι φωτογραφικές μηχανές εδώ που χρησιμοποιούμε είναι από τις πρωτινές. Τώρα δεν υπάρχουν τέτοιες φωτογραφικές μηχανές. Την μια φωτογραφική την προμηθευτήκαμε από την Ελλάδα και την άλλη από την Λεμεσό. Μέσα σ΄ αυτές υπάρχει και σκοτεινός θάλαμος. Εμφανίζουμε τις φωτογραφίες και τις τυπώνουμε εδώ στο ύπαιθρο σε 10΄ λεπτά."

Nikos Zanettis: " My brother taught me photography in 1945. Photography was profitable. I went all around Cyprus with my camera. There was a lot of work in the old years, i remember going to different schools and taking photographs of the students. Nowdays, we are not that busy because of the rise of digital colored photographs, thats why we intend to stop. Photography helped me raise my six childern"
Evangelos Zanettis: " I started being a photographer when i was 14 years old. We used to be very busy but now it's just a hobby. Our cameras are very old and one of a kind, you can't find them anywhere anymore. We bought them from Athens and Limassol. Inside there is a dark booth that enables us to print them in 10 minutes anywhere."
