Oil on canvas. 70 x 80 cm
A beautiful composition by Russian painter Eugene (Evgenios in Greek), representing the wide array of themes inspiring the music of Mikis Theodorakis, who is considered Greece’s most renowned and accomplished composer. This painting was made after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. The songs of Theodorakis about Cyprus influenced Evgenios and he selected this theme. Eugene was very fond of Greek culture and particularly, the island of Cyprus which he visited on numerous occasions.

                <text>By Gerasimos Sinaitos Filipupolitu. Icon. 34 x 47 cm. 16th Century
A portrayal of Mount Sinai in Egypt, depicting in illustrations the key biblical and spiritual events relating to it such as Moses seeing a bush alight that wouldn’t burn (representing the Blessed Virgin Mary), Moses receiving the ten commandments, the monastery of Saint Catherine that is located on the mountain and the Saint herself whose relics where found on the mountain where the monastery was built in her name. The icon was painted by Gerasimos of Sinaitis who during the second half of the 13th century went to Sina where he met Saint Gerasimo the Sinaitis (meaning the man of mount Sina) of whom he became a pupil and was given the name ‘Of Sinaitis’, referring to his mentor.

</text>
