This is painting is of southern German origin, and it was given as as a gift by Mrs Hedwig Hunger Reutte who for many years worked as a chamber maid (longtime housekeeper) at the Abbey in Auhofen and later in the district of Biberach. The painting was listed in a book published by the National Bank of Greece for an exhibition on “Mount Athos in Greek Art”. The painter Demos Braesas (1880-1964) originated from Aitoliko of the region of Messolonghi and died in Athens. Μπραέσας Δήμος. Ελαιογραφία πάνω σε ξύλο. 17 x 24 εκ « Μοναχός του Αγίου Όρους ». Στον πίνακα απεικονίζεται ένας ηλικιωμένος μοναχός μπροστά στην είσοδο της « Mονής της Mετανοίας » του. Ο πίνακας αυτός περιελήφθη σε βιβλίο που εκδόθηκε από την Εθνική Τράπεζα της Ελλάδος για μια Έκθεση για το Άγιο Όρος ( Άθω). Ο Μπραέσας Δήμος γεννήθηκε στο Αιτωλικό. Σπούδασε στη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών και αποφοίτησε το 1909. Υπήρξε συντηρητικός ζωγράφος όπου κινήθηκε στις τάσεις και τα αχνάρια του Ν. Λύτρα και του Σ. Μηλιάδη. Καλλιέργησε ένα ιμπρεσιονιστικό ύφος με αφαιρετικές χρωματικές και σχηματικές απλουστεύσεις αναζητώντας την πραγματική ζωγραφική ποιότητα των έργων του. Χρησιμοποίησε πλούσια και πυκνή χρωματική πάστα σε ελαφρώς λαμπερούς και αρμονικούς τόνους αποδίδοντας απλά καθημερινά θέματα. Ασχολήθηκε με την τοπιογραφία και την προσωπογραφία. Το 1944 διετέλεσε πρόεδρος του Καλλιτεχνικού Επιμελητηρίου Ελλάδας. Παρουσίασε πολλά έργα του σε ατομικές εκθέσεις από το 1920 έως το 1963, έλαβε μέρος στην Μπιενάλε της Βενετίας το 1934 και κέρδισε το χάλκινο μετάλλιο στην Exposition Internationale στο Παρίσι.
