This piece is one of his earliest works and was a gift for his father before gaining recognition as a reputable artist. Σπούδασε στην Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών στην Αθήνα από το 1947-1952, όπου πήρε το πρώτο βραβείο γλυπτικής (πορτραίτο). Το 1953 παρακολουθεί μαθήματα της Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών στο Παρίσι. Απέκτησε τη Γαλλική Υπηκοότητα. Έζησε στην Σουηδία, κατόπιν στις Η.Π.Α., στη Βοστόνη το 1962, όπου δίδαξε γλυπτική στη School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.. Ουσιαστικά μοιράζεται το χρόνο του μεταξύ Γαλλίας, Ελβετίας και Ελλάδας. Τα τελευταία χρόνια περνάει αρκετό καιρό στο Αυλωνάρι Εύβοιας όπου σχεδιάζει να δημιουργήσει μουσείο εικαστικών τεχνών. Είναι μέλος του ΕΕΤΕ. Ασχολείται με μια ευρεία κλίμακα εικαστικών προβληματισμών που παρουσιάζουν ως αφετηρία δημιουργίας, λόγο ύπαρξης και προορισμό το αρχέτυπο. Oil on canvas. 50 x 33 cm. A painting of a chapel close to a small harbor. Papanikolaou was born at the monastery of Trifillias and studied at the School of Fine Arts in Athens and served as assistant at the studio of T. Thomopoulou. In 1937, he began focusing on his art and worked with Fotis Kontoglou for five years. He died in Athens in 1986. Σπύρος Παπανικολάου (1906-1986).
